HOW DO I JOIN?                        La Quinta CERT Background Information

The City of La Quinta's volunteer CERT group is organized to support the City during an emergency or disaster. CERT members provide other assistance in planning, preparedness, exercises and community events. They learn skills in areas of interest which include: first aid and CPR, HAM radio, emergency operations center, and field operations.

Listed below are the requirements for becoming a CERT member:

Required Application & Training

  • La Quinta City Application - applications for volunteers is required regardless of where a volunteer is looking to do work for the city (i.e. police, fire, city, libraries, CERT, etc). LQ City Application

  • Disaster Services Worker (DSW) application   DSW Application

  • CERT 20 hour training through the CERT Academy at La Quinta Civic Center, 78-495 Calle Tampico, La Quinta, CA 92253

  • ICS-101a - Introduction to Incident Command System (Online) Incident Command System or Incident Command System

  • IS-700 - National Incident Management System (NIMS) (Online) Incident Command System or Incident Command System


  • Training listed above for CERT membership is to be completed throughout the first year.
  • The city also provides additional free training opportunities throughout the year including CPR, AED, first-aid, blood born pathogens, heat-stress, and hazardous materials awareness.

    Other Requirements

  • Attend 5 monthly meetings and 2 events to keep up to date with new info, projects, and changes
  • Bring your CERT binders to monthly meetings for updates and review
  • Enroll in "Code Red" phone communication system (via city website)
  • Defensive Driving certificate
  • FEMA Website - ISP Courses:
  • Wear Light Brown/Light Green Shirt with CERT logo to meetings & Events
